Rias Baixas are a part of the coastal area of Galicia. They occupy the west coast of the province of La Coruña and the coast of the province of Pontevedra. From north to south they are: Corcubión estuary, Ria de Muros and Noya, Ria de Arosa Ria de Aldán, Pontevedra estuary, Ria de Vigo.
Mussel farming is the largest aquaculture production in Spain and the most important in Europe, regularly reaching 250,000 tons annually. Spain is the second largest producer of this species after China.
